You probably already know at this point that you should label your boxes with their corresponding rooms in the house. For example, mark “kitchen” for the boxes with kitchen supplies inside. We recommend going even farther to list all the contents of the box. This may seem like a lot of work, but it will benefit you in the long run. Knowing which boxes hold your glasses versus your dishes or party trays will come in handy when you are looking for a specific item later.
Fragile items require some sort of padding when being packed away into boxes. Otherwise you will come back to broken dishes and cracked glass. Padding does not need to be anything crazy, and you do not even have to buy anything! Towels, socks, and T-shirts all make great barriers between items. Stuff them (gently) into your boxes so your items do not move around and break.
This may seem like a simple tip, but it is one of the most important. Keep your packing as stress free as possible by doing everything in your power to secure your items the right way. Boxes become flimsy over time, and that can be detrimental if you try to store something heavy inside them. Use old boxes to store lighter objects (blankets, clothing, etc.). Get new, sturdier boxes for your heavy items.
If you need new boxes, we sell storage supplies at both of our facilities. Come in for any last-minute boxes, tape, and bubble wrap. A percentage of our sales for the month of October will go to Susan G. Komen in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
